A commonly asked question amongst us animal lovers is “How do I keep my pet happy?”
For obvious reasons your furry little friends can’t express their feelings and you need to be able to identify when they are feeling sad,a bit under the weather or just down right bored so i’ve come up with a few tips to keep your fur babies 100% content.
1.BUY MORE TOYS
Yes it costs a lot and if you’ve got a chewer on your hands you will be buying a lot more than the average person however,I have recently found a life saver in keeping my dogs amused which is the Pawsome box,you may have seen this pop up on my blog from time to time but let me tell you,its bloody brilliant. It’s a monthly subscription which you can cater to your Dog’s needs (they also do one for cats) It is filled with toys, treats, gadgets and things to keep your dog healthy.I’m not saying you have to have this every month, maybe just have it as a doggy birthday present once a year but if you do subscribe you won’t be disappointed,it keeps my two amused for days.
(This is what’s in this months box)
2.PLENTY OF WALKS
I know this is a given and is quite obvious but in the summer months people tend to forget about walks “oh its too hot to take them, they won’t enjoy it”,”We are going out for the day and haven’t got time” all of this is nonsense, you buy a dog you must walk it every day without fail.I agree with it being too hot in the Summer however early mornings and late nights tend to be cooler and a brilliant time to walk your dog and trust me,they always enjoy it.
We all know that sometimes doggy bath time can be a right ol’ stress, for the dog and for the person that is washing them,My two used to hate bath time but by persisting (and having no choice when covered in mud) they have slowly come round to the idea and quite enjoy it,especially when it’s hot, they love a cool shower. They don’t need washing every day but keeping on top of their cleanliness is a must,we usually do ours once a month. If you and your pooch are struggling them maybe try adding toys into the bath and give treats as you go,this will help calm your dog and keep him/her amused and after all, a clean dog = a happy dog.
Keeping a friendship with your dog is the most important part of owning one, call me sad but my two are like best friends to me and I am constantly praising them when they do good.Verbal and physical praise keep them happy, secure and feeling loved.
5.TRY NEW TRICKS
A simple high five, sit, stay and lie down are all achievable with persistence.Try teaching your dog these new tricks it will keep you both amused for hours and don’t forget to give treats throughout the training, this will make your dog even happier and he will recognise he is doing well.
