Right in the heart of Edgbaston and a stones throw from central Birmingham lies the highly acclaimed Simpsons
. Led by chef director Luke Tipping Simpsons has earned the reputation for offering one of the best dining experiences in Birmingham and also holding a Michelin star. We headed over for what was our second time in this beautiful restaurant, to try the new season menu (and drink copious amounts of wine obviously)
The restaurant itself is made up of clean lines, touches of lime green and a tree slap bang in the middle, cool huh? Along with carefully selected art on the walls and a nod to modern design throughout. A somewhat warm and homely vibe was given as soon as we entered the building.
Okay so onto the most important part….the food! If you have followed me for a while you know i’m a HUGE food lover, and Simpsons comes high on the list of my favourite restaurants we’ve visited, this time round was no different, the food was incredible and each dish was made up of the most amazing flavours. We opted for the taster menu as it’s such a great way of trying all the various dishes they offer and if you’re not a fussy eater then it’s perfect (I will literally eat anything…within reason) however they do offer a set a-la-carte menu if you don’t want to go all out and just want a 3 course meal.
Each dish came perfectly presented and packed full of flavour, the definite favourites were the Salmon with Oyster Emulsion and the Beef Cheek & Bavette, both of which melted in the mouth and left us wanting more. Every plate of food was delightful and nothing could be faulted.
We also had the wine flight to accompany the taster menu, the selected wines were nice enough but most of which were old world wines and we much prefer new world so in hindsight if we return we would probably just order a couple of bottles we like, rather than opt for a different wine with each course.
If you are in the Birmingham area and have never been to Simpsons I certainly recommend going, a slightly pricier night out but 100% worth it and would also make a great special occasion meal if you have something to celebrate.
Have you visited Simpsons before? What did you think?
