My goal isn’t all about losing weight, if I do then of course that’s an added bonus but what I really wanted to focus on was getting stronger and just generally being outside more, some people will choose to stick to a treadmill and that’s perfectly fine but I love getting outside and taking in the scenery (plus who even spends their money on treadmills when the pavements and fields are free of charge? pffft no ta!). Another massive part of running was for my mind, it’s not all about personal bests or speed but just getting out there and doing it is a massive sense of achievement for me and the post run high is one of the best feelings ever! My mind can get pretty stagnant doing the same thing day in day out and I easily become agitated so running has really helped me with this, the moment I start feeling angry, upset or just massively procrastinating I get my kit on and get out the house.
1.IT CLEARS THE MIND
Like I said, I use running as a type of therapy I guess… no internet, no phone, no one else, just me, my body and the great outdoors. Once I get into the flow I could go for ages, without getting all deep it seriously aids my mental health and helps me switch off from anything I have on my mind, if you suffer from anxiety or stress I highly recommend giving running a spin.
2.THE MUSIC
This is one of my favourite parts of going for a run. I get to whack my headphones on, turn them up as loud as they will go and just boss it! I absolutely love trance music along with house and dance, I’ve got quite the epic workout playlist over on Spotify (Username: slimbabe45….don’t laugh!) if you need some workout inspo.
3.GET NEW KIT
I always find when I’m in a slump and falling out of love with exercise that wearing something new instantly makes me want to get back on it. You don’t have to spend the earth on a brand new Nike tracksuit or Sweaty Betty leggings (although both are on my Wishlist) just some cool socks, some sweatbands or a new top will do the job just fine. It’s quite materialistic but I find I workout my best when wearing new kit and feel super confident in it.
4.RUN BECAUSE YOU CAN!
Without sounding morbid…one day you will no longer be able to run…..okay so there’s a select few oldies that are still killin’ the marathons but not everyone is capable when they reach a certain age and unfortunately some people haven’t even got the luxury of being able to run so don’t take the ability for granted, use your body to its full extent.
5.GET HEALTHY
It goes without saying that there are huge health benefits to running or any form of exercise for that matter. This is something that has been on my mind as of late, I’m not getting any younger and I don’t want to be a couch potato by the time I’m 40 so this has given me a massive kick up the bum to get active, you don’t need to go mad every day and burn thousands of calories, just do something to get the heart rate up, take hiking for instance, a slow steady pace but enough incline to get that chest burning, this is something I want to do more of this summer.
So I hope this has inspired some of you to get up and get started, there’s no right or wrong way to exercise and these are just a few of my tips to keep me motivated, I’d love to hear your tips and tricks that work for you too!
Much Love, K x
