Wether you’re a lover or hater of the Christmas season, it’s well and truly on it’s way! It is my most favourite time of year. I love the lead up probably more than the actual day, I love the organising, the gift buying, the seeing friends and family and even the cleaning. I’m a clean freak most of the year but as Christmas starts to loom I like to have a big old deep clean of the house, cupboards, under the bed, but most importantly, the kitchen. The kitchen in my house is where everyone comes together and the entertaining takes place so I’ve put together this post to share my 5 ways to get your kitchen ready for the festive season.
Get your base clean done first! This would be my top tip, something that needs doing at least once a week, by base clean I mean dusting, hoovering, putting everything back in it’s home, washing, you know the drill, just the basic chores. If you are keeping on top of this every week then come Christmas week you wont actually have much to do and can spend more time eating and drinking. bonus! Everyone needs one of these dusters too, the Ostrich feathers are so delicate and perfect for cleaning fragile items.
Clean your glassware! Granted, probably one of the most boring jobs, however, you don’t want anyone picking up on the dishwasher stained/smeary glasses when you’re serving your best wine/champagne over the festive period do you? I find a long handled brush and a good washing up liquid does the job just fine, remember to dry them with a tea towel for glass or microfibre cloth to keep those smears at bay. These Champagne flutes are to die for, I can’t wait to serve some festive drinks in them this year.
Clean under any shelving, cupboards or free standing units! Come on, It’s a job we all avoid, I for one pretend that dust doesn’t gather in these places and what can’t be seen doesn’t matter but these places are probably one of the dirtiest places in your kitchen. Sweep first using a dustpan and brush and then follow with a damp cloth and some disinfectant, Zoflora is perfect as the scent lingers for ages. Wipe down any skirting boards that cupboards are pushed against also, they are a haven for dust.
Cupboards! The dreaded cupboards, the place where everything gets shoved in throughout the year! I’m currently working my way through my kitchen cupboards and my god it feels good when they are sorted. I make three piles, one of things to keep, one to take to the charity shop and another of things to sell. It’s a great way of finding things you forgot you had and making space to put all your Christmas food and new cookware in, If there is one step I recommend you do from any of these it is this one, you will feel amazing when everything is in order.
The cooker! Yep, not the most fun job but if you want your Christmas dinner to cook in a super clean oven then this is a must, plus it’s just nicer to look at a clean oven isn’t it? Get down and dirty with some oven cleaner and scrub until your hearts content, and if you keep on top of it by wiping the cooker down every time it’s been used you wont have to give it a deep clean for ages! Now where’s that turkey??
There you have it, 5 ways to get your kitchen ready for Christmas
